Scheduling and Cost Control

This 3-day in-house course provides a thorough understanding of best-practice methods of scope definition, planning and schedule & cost control.

Project managers deploying these tools will be more effective planners and progress controllers, and will be able to provide objective and thorough analysis of progress and spend to their senior managers.

Senior managers whose project staff have attended this course will benefit from more accurate reporting of projects, with earlier detection of problems in scope, timescale or cost.

The course is designed for staff who are currently engaged in or about to take on a project or programme management role, and others who will be involved with the planning and control of projects such as Senior Managers of project departments, Project and Programme Support Office staff and Planners.

Delegates on the course will leave with a practical understanding of

  • Defining project scope
  • Creating the Work Breakdown Structure
  • Estimating
  • Developing activity networks
  • Critical Path Analysis
  • Scheduling and construction of cost and schedule baselines
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Schedule Risk Evaluation and Analysis
  • Earned Value Analysis and Reporting
The course will be based on a fictional case study designed to enable delegates to participate in the planning, risk management and control of a project. The course therefore comprises a great deal of practical work in teams, designed to support and reinforce the learning gained during the lecture elements.
