Project/Programme Experience
A senior, experienced and qualified professional project management consultant with a proven track record in the delivery of key business change programmes and business critical projects, including the provision of consultancy, mentoring and accredited and bespoke training.
With proven experience in undertaking the role of Programme Manager, Project Director and Project Manager on multiple and often complex business and/or IT projects with interface to Sarbanes-Oxley programme. Experienced and conversant in the ITT and Bid Management Process, Contract Management, including the management of third party suppliers and off-shore delivery units. He has managed projects from both the Customer and Supplier perspective and is experienced in managing the customer interface and expectations at Company Board level as well as Project Boards and User teams (Mainland Europe-UK-USA-Ireland). Is experienced leading high profile recovery programmes and projects and has extensive communications and stakeholder experience.
Significantly, over the past five years he has been involved in assisting organisations to implement commercially based delivery capabilities to meet the challenges of the ever competitive market.
He developed his planning and management skills and experience at the coal face, working on engineering /construction projects including the build and commission of the Dinorwig Underground Power Station in North Wales. In the late 80’s he led one of the five work streams set up to create the new privatised electricity industry.
Following this he was appointed as one of the Programme Managers to head up the creation of Nuclear Electric, in particular the Energy Trading business group.
This led to opportunities being offered in the commercial world in which he held the post of project management consultant in a commercial systems house. It was from this assignment that he was offered the opportunity to join the premier PRINCE consultancy and training company Duhig Berry as an Associate Consultant.
Operating in both an Associate and freelance role, Alan created ACPM & Associates and for 12 years successfully built up a clientele covering banking/finance, utilities, civil engineering and education.
This ranged from direct hands on programme/project management to consultancy and training. Increasingly, he was asked to re-shape the project delivery operations from that of a typical in-house function to a more commercial model that can cope with and challenge the more astute commercial suppliers.
This naturally led him into the outsourcing field but rather than preparing for outsourcing, changing capabilities to actually fend off outsourcing.
He is well established in the PRINCE2 field, as one of the first Consultant intake and now as an accredited trainer and he also undertakes the role of PRINCE2 Examiner.
